Systems Integration and Scripting
Making standard applications (MSOffice, Filemaker) work together to perform a given task. Generally systems integration is performed using a supplementary scripting language, such as Visual Basic or AppleScript, but could take the form of an applcation in its own right.

This could be as simple as invoking an email client or word processor with information stored in a database. Or for a more complex example, it could be using a comms application to connect to remote data comms equipment, storing the retrieved data in a database, performing data manipulation, displaying the results as a chart in Excel and compacting the output to send via email. If you have to do something like this once manually then it's only a cumbersome annoyance, if you have to do it every week then you're wasting valuable time..

We can perform systems integration using AppleScript on the Macintosh or Visual Basic on Windows.
